THE FOOTBALL BLACK LIST CELEBRATES LIVERPOOL’S FOOTBALL AND COMMUNITY HEROES

Wednesday 30th July 2025 saw Anfield Stadium host the Football Black List regional celebration, supported by The Football Association. Football legends, grassroots leaders and community champions all came together to for an inspiring evening to celebrate Black excellence across Liverpool.

The evening was hosted by local personality Rubi Deschamps and recognised those making a significant impact both on and off the pitch.

A special tribute was paid to the late Kevin Campbell, Everton’s first Black captain, with his sister Lorna Campbell accepting the award on his behalf and reflecting on his lasting legacy within the game.

The event concluded with a Q&A featuring Liverpool FC’s first Black player, Howard Gayle, who shared reflections on his playing career, experiences of racism in football and his continued work as an activist and community advocate.
