Simon Mesfin was Sporting Director of Lillestrøm SK for almost a decade, and he was the first Black Sporting Director in the history of Norwegian professional football when he was appointed in 2017. Rising from volunteer to executive leadership, he guided recruitment and long-term strategy. Known for his integrity and calm leadership, Simon played a central role in supporting players and staff while shaping the club’s future. He also served as caretaker Head Coach/Manager for six games in 2023, becoming the first Black person to manage Lillestrøm SK’s first team. During this six-game period, it was historic that both the captain and manager of Lillestrøm SK were Black.
