Tyrone Mings
Players - Off The Pitch ▼
2024
The England and Aston Villa player is part of the Prince of Wales's charitable foundation as it puts in £3m to help make homelessness "rare, brief and unrepeated". He founded the Tyrone Mings Academy in 2018. Open to boys and girls of all abilities aged 5-16, the academy has locations in the South West, where Mings is from, and the Midlands areas of England. By prioritising high-quality coaches and pitches and charging £5-£6 per session, the academy is not run to turn a profit. Mings’ public acts of generosity have included donating tickets to a hard-up fan and spending Christmas Day helping to feed homeless people. He has also spoken candidly about the financial hardships his family faced when he was growing up, including a spell living with his sisters and mother in a homeless shelter. After speaking to family members working in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), Mings announced the Tyrone Mings Academy would offer six weeks of free training to the children of NHS workers when centres reopen. He was also involved in the Players Together campaign led by Premier League players to donate money to NHS Charities Together.
